Welcome to Clifford Barton. We are set in a wonderfully peaceful 50 acre woodland wildlife haven in the beautiful Teign Valley on the northern edge of a Dartmoor, yet just 10 miles west of Exeter, and 5 minutes off the A30.
Within the Dartmoor National Park (http://www.dartmoor-npa.gov.uk/visiting), we are a stone's throw (3 mins walk) from the River Teign and over 800 acres of the stunning Fingle Woods (http://www.woodlandtrust.org.uk/visiting-woods/wood-information/fingle/), just up the road from Dunsford Woods Nature Reserve (http://www.devonwildlifetrust.org/reserve/Dunsford/) and a few miles down river from Castle Drogo (http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/castle-drogo/things-to-see-and-do/).
We fell in love with Clifford Barton in the summer of 2013, as a wonderful place to raise our family. Having renovated the cottages to a high standard, we are delighted to invite others to come and enjoy the peace and quiet and rich natural environment that this part of the Country has to offer. We manage the 50 acres of woodland, meadows, lake and ponds for wildlife and its enjoyment. We have installed a district biomass boiler to heat the properties and their water, one of many planned environmental improvements.
We currently have three cottages available; Bridesmere sleeps 8, both Mardon and Butterdon sleep 5. All are beautifully decorated, well appointed and have private fenced gardens. They are also well equipped for children and we are happy for you to bring your well behaved dog(s).
Running an environmentally sustainable operation is important to us, and in early 2014 we replaced the previous traditional oil and electric heating systems with a wood chip boiler that provides heat to the cottages and main house. In the future we plan to supply our energy for heating and hot water from our woodland.
We can assure you of a very warm welcome here and hope that you too will love this slice of Devon, and the natural wonders that the Teign Valley, Dartmoor and the wider area have to offer.
