We are Vicki and Gavin and together with our three children and Twiggy (the welcome whippet) run Clifford Barton Holiday Cottages. We fell in love with Clifford Barton in 2013 and had to try and find a way to make it work as a business. My love is home furnishings and craft and Gavin’s is woodland management. We both love Dartmoor and wildlife and with the environment always at the forefront of our mind this seemed to perfect opportunity for us all.
Our vision was to create stylish cosy places to stay, well equipped, a home away from home with modern day comforts, but sympathetic to the 16th century barn history. We wanted to make it easy for guests to connect with wildlife, with bird feeders that you can watch from the comfort of the sofa, bird, wildlife, wallk and map books.
We have also just finished a letterboxing/treasure hunt for all ages to encourage the kids to explore the 50 acres of woodland, lake and meadows that make up Clifford Barton.
After renovating the two smaller cottages in 2014 and Bridesmere in 2015 we are delighted to welcome guests here to enjoy the peace and tranquility and to explore the local area. Feedback from guests is that they love the peace and serenity, the small community feel of Clifford Barton and the safe space for kid to enjoy and explore. Many of our guests with children have great plans but end up spending much of their time relaxing here as kids make friends and explore the woods, cycling, games rooms etc.
We are constantly striving to improve our guests’ experience and now have a pool of bikes for guests to use, making a quick trip up the river to the Fingle Bridge Inn all the easier.
We are always on hand to give help and advice from bird or plant identification to advice on local walks, places to visit, resturants etc. We look forward to meeting you and can promise you a warm welcome from all at Clifford Barton.
