Local places of interest
Exeter is a thriving University city with a magnificent Norman cathedral, and has shops, swimming pools, ten pin bowling alley, a museum, theatre, and cinemas. There is a large new Sainsbury's on the edge of the city. There are good pubs, shops and post offices in Dunsford, Drewsteignton and Cheriton Bishop, all about three miles away. Moretonhampstead, on the edge of the moor is four miles away and has an good independent butcher. Chagford, well known as a Dartmoor stannary town, is six miles away. It has an excellent delicatessen, a bookshop and Bowden's, the shop famous for stocking absolutely everything.
It is possible to spend a busy or quietly relaxing holiday in the immediate vicinity of Clifford Barton. The farm is close to the geographic centre of Devon and is a good base from which to explore the county and the south west. There are beaches, at Dawlish and Teignmouth 15 or 20 miles away. Totnes, Dartington and Dartmouth are within easy striking distance and a beautiful drive over Dartmoor takes you to Plymouth. Cornwall and the Eden project is close enough for a day trip.
