Reviews - what our guests have to say....

Really couldn’t be better. Everything about our stay far exceeded any expectations. The cottage was warm, comfortable, spotlessly clean and contained all you could need. Our children loved their room, mezzanine and games barn and made the most of exploring the grounds.
The location is beautiful and idyllic yet perfect for exploring the area and beyond as well. Owners Vicki and Gavin could not have been more welcoming and helpful so that we could make the most of our stay. May 2016

Beautiful Butterdon! What a wonderful place to stay!It simply has it all by the bucket load.We will definitely return to continue exploring the Devonshire countryside. Thankyou Vicki and Gavin for your hospitality. Nov 2015

A beautiful place to stay. On arrival after a long journey, worried that we had missed our tesco delivery & unable to contact anyone, we found that it had already been delivered and put away for us! Fantastic!
Bridesmere was absolutely lovely, charming, spacious and welcoming - the homemade cake and apple juice waiting for us were delicious, thank you so much Vicki.
The games room was popular with us all and such a bonus addition especially for my 3 sons (16-24) who love a bit of competition!
Nothing was too much trouble for Vicki and Gavin and they were extremely helpful and professional. We had a relaxing and fun holiday, thank you!  8th Aug 2017

A very special place. The quality accommodation is truly fabulous but the very rare feature here is just how quickly it is possible to relax and for the kids to have an amazing time! 21st April 2016

Quiet Beauty. What a lovely spot. Two families with four late teenage boys which made the 4 bed childrens room work. A lovely barn conversion retaining the character of an old building while having all the comforts of a modern upgrade. Be warned wonky floors take a bit of getting used to but add some fun. Soooo quiet, sitting out in the private garden (the other side of the house from the picture) the only sound was the birds singing, it is also a good suntrap for an evening bbq.. Lovely walks up and down the river from the house and only 40 minutes by car from Exeter or Dartmoor when you want more. Devon lanes are scary, but when you take it easy, (as everyone seems to) safe. Fabulous games room (Shared with 2 other lets) with a quality Table tennis table and table football. and (I guess) a 3/4 snooker table, a good back up if it rains (fortunately for us it didn't). We cycled in all directions from the house and for the flatter (not flat) would recommend south east. Good activities around, we Canoed the Ex in Exeter and hired MTB's at Haldon Forest both good fun 1/2 days. Friendly welcome from Vicky and around for help and advice if needed but really left us to enjoy our stay. Which we thoroughly did. 20th Aug 2017

Absolutely Wonderful! The house, location, owners were all lovely. We loved the house, so beautifully decorated, with so much care to detail and the location was amazing. You can walk out from the house to fantastic walks and pubs for lunch. Or a short drive and you are on Dartmoor for more stunning walks and amazing scenery. The play barn is a fantastic addition, full of fun things for the whole family and plenty of bikes for everyone to go out cycling on. The owners have thought of everything and more that you could need or want for a wonderful family holiday. Thank you so much and hope to come back again soon. 6th Jan 2017

Fantastic Cottage. We arrived at Mardon late on the Friday night after a long drive, the hosts had been in and put the lights on to welcome us. The cottage was warm and welcoming and a beautiful cake and local apple juice was on the table which was an unexpected and much appreciated surprise.
We booked the cottage as we were attending a wedding near by and Vicki had helped me with booking of taxis etc..
The cottage is beautiful and has everything you could need and more. The decor is lovely and the finishing touches simply gorgeous.
The small touches were really appreciated ( ice tray full, water ready in the coffee machine heating and lights on for when we arrived).
The beds and bedding were perfect and we genuinely had a wonderful stay and will definitely be back. Thanks again for such a memorable stay. Oct 2017

A delightful break from reality. An idyllic base from which to explore one of Devon's most beautiful regions. The cottage was incredibly comfortable, offering all modern amenities, and felt like a genuine 'home from home' - one of the first times we could say that about holiday accommodation. Vicki and Gavin were wonderful hosts, and bent over backwards to ensure that our family - including the children aged 10 and 1 - settled in immediately. Clifford Barton is very well located to explore most of Devon within an hour (by car), so when combined with the quality of the welcome & lodgings, stunning natural scenery, and the overall sense of peace & quiet, it made for a near-perfect venue for our holiday. Last but not least, the owners have made major investments in making their property as sustainable as possible, which was an additional 'feel good' factor about our time spent there! Aug 2015

Amazing week away. The cottage and area were fantastic. I couldn't have asked for a better week away for me and my children. Lots of precious memories made. Thank you so much. We would like to return for another stay 2nd Dec 2017

Clifford Barton does it again! This was our second visit to Clifford Barton and it has everything for a young family and is the perfect place to wind down from everyday life. All the properties are well maintained, welcoming and great value for money. We will be coming back!! 24th April 2107

Absolutely loved it! A real magical Christmas treat!! Cosy, spotless, warm, and beautifully decorated!!! Also a real treat to show our children real stars without our light pollution seen in essex!!  Hosts and their children were lovely too!! Not forgetting the gorgeous twiggy that we all fell in love with!!!!  Christmas 2014

A summer week with the family. We have sadly just returned from a fantastic week in these delightful cottages (Butterdon & Mardon). We had a lovely greeting from Vicki the owner who gave us tips on the area and said she was around should anything be needed.

We were welcomed with a lovely home baked cake and local apple juice which was gratefully received after our long journey. The cottage was so beautiful with homemade furnishings and so well equipped. The garden was ideal for us as it was completely secure which allowed me to completely relax knowing my Springer (who thinks he is Houdini) stay safe in my sights.

We hardly used our car as there were fantastic walks from the doorstep, either going to the Onsite Lake and woods or along the Teign to the wonderful Fingle Bridge pub. There was also the use of bikes which we took advantage of one day. The games barn was fantastic for the grown up kids who loved the table tennis and pool. The weather was superb all week so we all now feel super relaxed. We cannot wait to return. August 2016

Peaceful Holiday. Great attention to detail is shown in this delightful cottage which is so attractively furnished. Everything was so accessible in the kitchen and Vicki is a very warm hearted hostess who had baked a lovely cake for us and supplied a bottle of local apple juice. One of the nicest cottages we have ever stayed in and we hope to return again.  May 2015

Spring Break. The property was picturesque, plenty of room for parking and very peaceful. We were pleasantly surprised to find a delicious homemade Victoria Sandwich on the table on our arrival as well as a bottle of local apple juice, a very nice touch!!
The interior was spotlessly clean and well appointed and very comfortable. Even the birds in the garden were catered for with lots of feeders around giving us the chance to see birds we had not seen for a long time. It was very pleasant to walk from the house around the lake which, for children, would be heaven. Our hosts were very friendly and helpful and we had a very enjoyable week. May 2015

Wonderful family Holiday at Bridesmere! Thank you to Vicki and Gavin for a lovely stay at Bridesmere. The property is beautifully converted and we loved the quirky slanted floor in the living area - it certainly provided endless entertainment for our little boy. Very comfortable stay, with everything you need for a self-catering holiday. Great location too, with plenty to do nearby. 6th August 2017
