Clifford Barton is a great place to bring your kids. The cottages are well equipped for smaller children. There is a travel cot, tripp-trapp high chair, plastic bowls, cups and cutlery and a range of toys, books and DVDs for them to enjoy. The minature Pony Centre, just outside Moretonhampstead is a favourite with younger children. The cottages both have private fenced gardens which are safe for children to play.
Older children will love to explore the woods and lake, play table tennis, table football, pool or even put on a play in the games barn. There is also a perfect wild swimming spot on the River Teign 15 minutes walk from the cottage and the famous "salmon leaps" wild swim spot for the more adventorus. The National Trust runs a programme of activites. A favourite is Wild Tribe at Fingle Bridge, where children can make dens, learn survial skills such as friction fire lighting. We have just set up a letter boxing trail around Clifford Barton to help children explore the 50 hectares of woodland, lake and outdoor space at Clifford Barton.
Children and adults are welcome to borrow bikes and scooters from our bike pool. There is a great cycle ride along the Teign to Fingle Bridge Inn for cheesy chips to fuel the trip back - a favourite with our kids. The long gently sloping drive is a great place for smaller kids to learn to cycle and we are proud of the number of children who have mastered the art of cycling whilst on holiday with us.
"This is a great place to stay with the mysterious island and the birthing fairy tree, and the big ant hills. I will miss the play loft and toys in the cottage and liked the table tennis and my brother liked the snooker and Twiggy. We also liked the stage and piano. There are lots of birds and cherries. I am going to come back again soon".
